The P.T.A ; Education On Teenage Pregnancy by TENGEY ISRAEL , 'DZEMENI E.P JHS'

P.T.A ;TEENAGE PREGNANCY IS A MENACE TO OUR SOCIETY

The Rise in the Number of teenage pregnancy in our communities Led  the Parents Teacher Association(P.T.A) to hold an educative session  with the Girls. as they are most likely to be affected  by this 'Menace".

Among the statement  the P.T.A  made was for Girls not to engage themselves in sexual activities (Abstinence). They moved to say teenage  pregnancy can affect young girls in many ways, some of   which were outlined as sickness, stillbirth , even Death. Among the solutions proposed for the prevention was Godliness.
The issue of giving out girls into marriage to elderly men is destroying the future of such young  girls. Surprisingly, this practice is known  to many but not much is being done to end it.
Occasionally, one hears or reads in the media about young girls being forced to drop out of school to be given out marriage. Some of the girls we are  told, even run away from their homes to avoid being forced into such relationship.
The practice is disturbing because young girls who are supposed to be in school are made to drop out because a man is interested in marrying them.
Some of this girls begin having children at very tender ages, risking their lives and their individual development. It is well known that this practice is not good for health of the girls, but because of poverty some parent give their young girls away, ignoring the risks to their lives.
I think it is time we stepped up the education of the public on the dangers and negative effects of marrying off young girls. Parents must be educated to appreciate the fact that is giving their girls education is prime to the improvement of their lives.
Such education must be in all the major languages and broadcast in the various media outlets, especially the electronic media since they are more accessible across the country.
